We are excited to finally share the release of our first single off Octaplume with you. The single (now streaming everywhere) includes three-tracks off the eventual 12-track album. We are excited to release our debut 2-track studio single, Gazelle, to major streaming platforms this month!
Lyrically, the first song, “Part of Us,” explores love's frustrations. There are parts of the song that sound like it could ring out at a piano bar, and other parts that insist on the inevitability of failure. The combination of Sergio's vocals with the operatic guest vocalist Emily Dorian, the hopeful and dreamy transitions from Joyce Kim's gayageum (Korean string instrument) and extemporaneous finale by saxophonist Sean Hill's contributions are just some of the sonic surprises buried within.
The second (and title-track) song, “Gazelle,” is about a fictional space probe designed by humankind to venture to the unknown and find a place more hospitable than Earth, which we've scorched. We were honored to collaborate with Ari Scott and Scott Daniel for this studio string quartet arrangement, as well as the rhythm section which features live drums and digital sampling designed to evoke space probe sounds.
